Continental Knitting with Gwen Wagner-Adair (Sun)
Sunday 24th September
13.30 – 16.30hrs (3hrs)
Continental workshop kit includes:
- 1 x 100g WYS Aire Valley Aran Fusions
- 1 x set of notes
- 1 x Continental Cowl pattern
- All in a cute re-usable cotton tote
Ever wanted to knit faster? Or perhaps you detest moss stitch because it takes forever? This workshop will introduce you to the basics of Continental knitting, where the yarn is held in the left hand and stitches are ‘picked’. Commonly considered one of the fastest methods of knitting – it also makes switching between knit and purl a breeze. Perfect for speeding up ribbing and moss stitch. Bring your good humour and patience to give yourself time to get used to new hand positions and methods of tensioning/holding your yarn. The rewards will be well worth the effort. We’ll also cover how to knit continuously without dropping your yarn between rows.
Our workshop project is a lovely textured cowl which also includes lace and cable patterns. This project will help us cover the following skills on the workshop, starting with the basics of how to hold your yarns for working continental style:
Lace (decreases and yarn overs) Cable
If you’re attending the workshop, you may wish to bring a pen and paper with which to take notes, as well as your knitting kit – you never know when you might need your usual essentials.
There will be water and squash available throughout the workshop. If you’d like a hot beverage, consider a stop at the coffee cart before the workshop starts.
4.5mm or 5mm needles – for your preferred tension in aran yarn Anything you might need for taking some notes (pen, paper)
Required skills: casting on, knit and purl.
