Next Steps in Socks with Gwen Wagner-Adair (Sun)
Sunday 24th September
10.15am – 13.15pm (3hrs)
Next Steps in Socks workshop kit includes:
- 1 x 100g WYS Aire Valley Aran
- 1 x toe-up sock pattern
- 1 x set of notes
- All in a cute re-usable cotton tote
Want to learn how to knit toe-up socks? Want to learn an afterthought heel or finesse your short-row heels?
The Next Steps in Socks workshop will cover all the basics of toe-up sock knitting, including Judy’s magic cast-on, a simple short-row heel, and an afterthought heel. We will also do cardboard foot tracings, to enable you to have more accurate toe/heel placements.
This is a good chance to try out working socks using magic loop if you want. If you would like to give it a go, please bring needles a longer circular (80-100cm). You may also wish to bring DPNs as well, just in case.
If you’re attending the workshop, you may wish to bring a pen and paper with which to take notes, as well as your knitting kit – you never know when you might need your usual essentials.
There will be water and squash available throughout the workshop. If you’d like a hot beverage, consider a stop at the coffee cart before the workshop starts.
4mm or 4.5mm needles – either circular or DPN for your preferred method of working socks in the round (We will be using aran yarn for our workshop project)
Required skills: casting on, knit and purl. Some knowledge of short rows may be useful, but I will teach these from the beginning on the workshop.
Please note: It will be helpful if you’ve knitted at least one pair of socks before so that you’re familiar with the general process and elements of a knitted sock, worked in the round.
