The Yarn Walk

Skipton Auction Mart is the venue for Yarndale, and it is situated about a mile and a half from the town centre. As you can see from the above photograph, it is rather picturesque and nestles beautifully  amidst the rolling Yorkshire countryside.

It’s super easy to arrive at the auction mart on wheels, and there is a very spacious car park to accommodate you if you drive. The Yarndale team has also organised a fabulous shuttle bus to trundle back and forth between the festival and the train station for the duration of the weekend. We felt this was a pretty essential service to provide….no good having a whole gang of  yarn-a-holics  hanging about in town, desperate for some woolly action and no way of getting there at speed! And at the end of a busy, creative, yarn infested day, when your Yarndale bag is bulging with scrummy goodies and you are happily exhausted, you have the luxury of being able to ride back into town. Bliss.

Here in Yarndaleland, we are keeping all available body parts crossed for great weather during the last weekend in September. We want it to be beautiful here for you. Ok, if not gorgeously beautiful, dry will do. No wet stuff falling from the sky thank you very much. And if it is dry weather, we would very much love you to step out and experience The Yarn Walk.

The walk from the train station will give you a lovely half an hour stroll. You cross the bridge over the picturesque canal with its colourful resident narrow boats, then follow the path into the wide green expanse of Aireville Park…

….there is a pathway leading you right through the park, with benches along the way if you feel the need to pause for a bit.

The route is littered with railings and fences….

….wrought iron gates….

….lamp posts and trees….

….benches and bins….

…. and even an old band stand.

But I think you’ll agree it is all so OrDinArY, and for the Yarndale weekend, we want to turn this walk into something EXtRa-ordinary. We want to create an amazing Yarn Walk for you, a walk that will deliver you lots of woolly pleasure, will fill you with creative happiness, and make you smile and laugh out loud. There is a small group of very over excited yarn-o-holics in Skipton who have already begun knitting and hooking up a colourful storm.

We are the Yarndale Yarnbombers!

Would you like to have a peek at our Inspiration Pinboards? Want to see what sort of thing makes us come over all giddy?

Ok, feast your eyes on this little lot……

See you in September, yarn lovers ♥

How about letting those who cant come join in? We could do some knitting/crochet to participate in the yarn bombing and get it posted to you by a certain date………good luck for the festival and fingers crossed for the weather

  2. Rachel says:

Please let me know if you’d like me to crochet anything to contribute to the yarn walk. I’m planning on coming to Yarndale.

I love, love, love this! So wish I could be there! (I did get my Yarndale bag in the mail last week). My DH and I went to England on our honeymoon in 1985- we spent several days in York and the dales. My 85 year old Dad took me and my sisters on a three-week trip to England, Scotland and Ireland last October. Again stayed in York and explore the dales north of York. I’m in love with Yorkshire and could easily live there…

I can’t wait! I’m trying to get my daughter into knitting, she’s too young at the moment but I want her to learn that it can be exciting and interesting. This should certainly help! The photos have already got an enthusiastic ‘Wow’ from her. A good start.

I’m interested to know how long the yarnbombed items stay that way? It’s so colorful but I’m sure Mother Nature isn’t always cooperative. 🙂

Now seriously, I am wondering if you could hold Yarndale in July when I am in Europe this year. I could just hop across the Channel and come to Yarndale…….. It’s such a long way to come back again in September when you live down under! So wish I could come,…….. but I will be eagerly reading your blog when it is over to see ‘what everyone did and said’.

I love the idea of the yarn walk. Looks amazing – wish we had something similar in Sydney Australia. Will make some bunting as requested by Lucy at Attic24.

I love all the items from the Yarnbombing Inspiration Board and I’m looking forward to the photos in the end of September. Unfortunately I can’t see them myself but the pictures will do. So I’m crossing my fingers and toes and everything else for dry weather for you and the festival. Have lots of fun!!!
