Embroidery on Knitted Fabric
£30.00
with Ellie Taylor
Saturday: 12:30 – 14:00
Most embroidery is done on woven fabrics or non-wovens such as felt. Stretchy fabrics (jersey and knitting) behave very differently.
In this workshop we’ll try a variety of hand embroidery stitches and look at why some of them change how the fabric behaves.
We’ll also look briefly at artists and embroidery styles – possible inspiration for your next project…
Participants will receive a pre-knitted square to stitch on, a selection of threads and yarns, including some handspun.
Sewing needles & scissors will also be provided.
Please bring the following:
If there is an item of knitwear you’d like to embroider onto please bring it along.
Ellie is a textile artist based at Craven Arts House in Skipton and is inspired by the interaction between people and their environment. She works mostly with embroidery, patchwork, and hand-spinning. She uses natural fibres, upcycled garments, and things that indie-dyers have worked their magic on. Ellie also spends too much time knitting and browsing Ravelry!
