Learning to Spin Using a Top Whorl Drop Spindle with Angela from Adelaide Walker
Saturday 25th September | 15.45 – 17.15 | Workshop Theatre 1
Learn to spin using a top whorl drop spindle, enabling you to create your own unique yarns. Angela will take you through the basics of spinning, from choosing wool, how to start your spinning, drafting your wool and turning it into a plied yarn. You’ll go away enthused and with your own spindle (made in Yorkshire by Simon, the other half of the Adelaide Walker team), instructions and fibres so you can continue practicing and learning at home.
Angela Barrow: My textile life began early, Gran lived next door but one and taught me to knit, crochet, embroider and make rag rugs. I’ve continued to sew, knit and crochet throughout my life and have been a feltmaker for over twenty years. Ten years ago I became a partner in Adelaide Walker and my love of spinning and weaving took off. I do own spinning wheels but my go to for spinning is the drop spindle, so portable and tactile. Not only does it make great yarn but I find the process meditative too.
