Steeking Workshop with Gwen Wagner-Adair (SUNDAY PM)

Sunday 29th September
1.30pm – 4.30pm (3 hrs, includes yarn and materials except needles)

There are so many beautiful shawls out there! Do you ever wonder where to start?

Have you ever heard of steeking? Steeking is cutting your knitting. It is a technique used in traditional fair isle / stranded knits, typically worked in the round, to turn pullovers into cardigans. I know it sounds a bit scary but this workshop will give you all the tools you need to take your courage in your hands and steek your knits, with a professional finish. We can do it together! For the workshop, you will knit some samples beforehand to provide practice materials for learning to steek.

This workshop will cover:
• A crochet reinforced steek
• Cutting!
• Picking up for the border afterwards
• Finishing the steek

Skills needed:
• Knitting in the round (to make the workshop pre-knitting samples)

Materials provided:
• Steeking workshop notes
• Waste yarn for reinforcing the steek

Students to bring:
• Homework samples: one fair isle (4ply), one plain (DK or aran)
• Crochet hook a size smaller than needles used to make samples
• Needles: for Icord edging…
• Sharp, small scissors
