Toe-up Socks with Gwen Wagner-Adair (SUNDAY PM)
Sunday 30th September
1.30pm – 4.30pm (3hrs)
Want to learn how to knit toe-up socks? This is a great way of knitting plain vanilla socks.
This toe-up socks workshop will cover all the basics of toe-up sock knitting, including Judy’s magic cast-on with a twist, a simple short-row heel and setting up an afterthought heel. On the workshop, I’ll share my plain vanilla sock recipe with you, to free you from your pattern.
This is a good chance to try out working socks using magic loop if you want. If you would like to give it a go, please bring a long circular needle in the recommended needle size (80-100cm). You may also wish to bring DPNs as well, just in case.
Required skills: casting on, knit and purl. You may find it helpful if you have worked in the round and/or made a pair of socks before, however it’s not essential.
- 1 x 50g West Yorkshire Spinners aran yarn
- All in a cute re-usable cotton tote
Students need to bring:
- 4mm or 4.5mm – either circular needles or DPNs for your preferred method of working socks in the round (We will be using aran yarn for our workshop project)
- paper and pen, if you wish to take notes
