Our Charity Partner

This year we are delighted to support OXFAM as our chosen charity for 2023.

Oxfam are a global movement of millions of people working together to end poverty through:

  • Safe, clean water for all
  • Beating hunger
  • Tackling climate change
  • Women and gender justice
  • Responding to emergencies.

The Oxfam team on their Yarn and Craft Amnesty Stand collect any unneeded yarns or haberdashery, any amount big or small, which they sell in their shop to raise life saving funds.

Oxfam volunteers will be also running a bag coat drop for your convenience. Just £2 for the day means you can drop your coat or bag, leaving you free to treasure hunt and browse at your leisure. The funds made will go to saving lives and making a fairer world.

Please support the Oxfam stand with a donation, any amount is most appreciated with cash or cards accepted.

Thank you so much from the Yarndale Team and Oxfam.

Worldwide Creative Project

Yarndale has become well known for its large scale yarn installations and each year there is much excitement amongst knitters and crocheters all over the world once the new project is announced.

For us, setting the creative challenge and hearing the enthusiastic response from everyone who joins in is one of the most exciting parts of Yarndale each year. We really enjoy seeing and sharing your creations and love the connections and friendships that are made along the way.

In the past, you have created beautiful dishcloths, flowers, creative hearts and mandalas to name but a few, and last year you wowed us with chains of 10 link bunting to celebrate our 10th anniversary.

All your creations are included in the unique and breathtaking visual displays that greet you as you arrive at Yarndale on the show weekend, bringing a heart-warming celebration of colour, community and creativity to Skipton Auction Mart, as well as raising awareness and much needed funds for our charity partners.

We are delighted to introduce our Worldwide Creative Project for this year’s Yarndale and our 2023 Charity Partner.

2023 Challenge

Our challenge for you this year is to create colourful crocheted or knitted triangle bunting featuring individual appliqué capital letters as demonstrated in the picture below.

We will join these triangles together in our visual display to create the following words which encapsulate the Yarndale experience:

  • YARNDALE
  • CROCHET
  • KNIT
  • WOOL
  • SHEEP
  • WEAVE
  • SPIN
  • DARN
  • YARN
  • MEND
  • MAKE
  • SKIPTON
  • SEW
  • DYE
  • SMILE
  • DO
  • FRIEND
  • OXFAM
  • STITCH

You can either send us a complete word, or you can send us individual triangles using any of the letters included in these words. The triangles should be knitted or crocheted in any colour and the letters can be made any way you choose, either knitted, crocheted or fabric.

However, please feel free to improvise to include the words that reflect how Yarndale and making make you feel.

Emma from the Yarndale team has provided a knitted pattern and a crochet pattern for the individual triangles for you to follow as well as two Make Along With videos so you can knit and crochet together with her.

DOWNLOAD PATTERN

There are lots of patterns on the internet for knitted or crocheted letters. Our crocheted letters are based on patterns by Melody Griffiths in 201 Crochet Motifs, Blocks, Projects and Ideas.
